The inspiration for Indie Scream

The magazine covers above are what gave me the inspiration for the creation of Indie Scream. Photographing a mask, without it looking as if it is an image from a theatre production, is extremely hard. However, because of these magazines I decided to keep the magazine simple and have the whole focus on the mask itself. Having the mask looking at the audience creates a connection.
The simple black and red blended colour scheme is important in allowing the audience to know that this magazine is focusing on the horror genre. I decided to have a very similar background to this and believe I did this well. Both of the magazine covers above and Indie Scream have very limited colour scheme; consisting mainly of black, red and white.
In addition to the limited colour scheme, the white blocked masthead also keeps the focus on the mask itself. However, the sharp edges of each letter could be reflective of the genre.
However, after looking at both magazines I prefer Premiere because of how simple and elegant it is. It is made very clear that both magazines are for an intelligent audience, the same type of audience Indie Scream is targeting.
